AOSIS

The Alliance of Small Island States

The Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) plays a central and indispensable role in guiding the work of the SIDS Centre of Excellence.

As the formal negotiating voice for the 39 small island and low-lying coastal developing states, AOSIS represents their collective interests in global climate change and sustainable development processes.

Although small in size, AOSIS has consistently punched above its weight, shaping historic global agreements, advancing ambitious climate action, and ensuring that the unique vulnerabilities of SIDS remain at the forefront of international decision-making.

As an integral partner in the CoE, AOSIS helps ensure that the Centre’s work is aligned with the priorities, mandates, and strategic direction of SIDS within the multilateral system.

“As AOSIS Chair, I’m proud to champion the SIDS Centre of Excellence, a key outcome of the ABAS 2024-2034, and a shared engine for action for developing states.

With a global data hub serving as a home for technology transfer, skills development, and a bridge to investment, the Centre will help convert knowledge into capacity and capacity into bankable projects that deliver resilient prosperity for our people and our planet. It aligns partners, data, and finance so every island can deliver measurable results while providing the world with an official mechanism to engage with all SIDS”
